Our program is structured so that kids as young as 3+ can begin learning step by step, building a strong foundation at their own pace.
In this section, you’ll find a step-by-step curriculum, worksheets, and useful links to support your learning journey. Whether you’re a student, parent, guardian, or educator, this space is here to make learning smooth, engaging, and simple to follow. Happy learning!
Level 0 - Little Rainbows
This program is designed for children aged 3+. While Rainbow Maths does not offer online Abacus lessons for ages 3-4, we have created and continue to develop various learning resources such as worksheets, flashcards, mock tests, and hands-on activities for little learners.
At this stage, young children can start with simple addition, subtraction, and early division (learning to make halves). If children are ready – introduce friendly numbers on fingers (Small Friends and Big Friends), which will be used in Level 1.
Step-by-StepLearning Approach:
- Basic Addition & Subtraction
- Learning to count and recognize numbers 0-9
- Practicing simple addition and subtraction using the abacus (without Abacus formulas)
- If capable, children also practice visualizing the abacus in their minds and performing calculations without the physical tool.
- Using Abacus Flashcards & Hands-on Activities
- Reading simple abacus flashcards for number recognition
- Engaging in fun crafts like cut-glue-paste paper beads onto templates
- Early Division (Making Halves)
- Learning division by splitting objects into two equal parts
- Hands-on practice with toys, Legos, pencils, small cards, or buttons
- Using Toddler Division Worksheets
- Practice with Mock Tests
- Simple mock tests are available to reinforce learning and build confidence

Level 0 - Juniors 5-8
If the student is between 5 and 8 years old, this is the perfect place to start! Rainbow Maths offers online lessons for young learners, beginning with Junior Level 0.
This level consists of 8 lessons over 4 weeks (2 lessons per week), where children learn numbers, addition, and subtraction on the abacus for numbers 0-10. They are gradually introduced to 20, 30, and 40.
Throughout the course, students practice visualizing the abacus by solving a variety of problems, such as 4 + 5 – 8 or 2 + 7 – 5. They also learn that all even numbers are divisible by 2 (even numbers can be split equally in half). To make the learning division more engaging, we use toys and hands-on activities.
At this stage, children will be able to perform simple division and, if ready, we introduce basic multiplication, such as 1 × 6, 4 × 3, or 2 × 2.
Kids are introduced to Abacus flashcards featuring the units place and tens place (two rows).
Children are introduced to simple Sudoku logic games at an easy level, using numbers 1-4. Sudoku puzzles are number-placement games that challenge players to fill a grid so that each row, column, and designated section contains every number without repetition.
Please note that the time required to complete Junior Level 0 varies depending on the child’s understanding and homework completion. Some children may need more than 8 lessons, while others may progress faster. If a student masters the concepts quickly, we move on to the next level to ensure they continue to be challenged and engaged.

Junior Experts (Revision) 5-8
After completing the Junior Plus level (ages 5-8), some children may need extra practice before moving on to Abacus – Small Friends (Level 1). To support them, we have designed an additional level – Junior Experts, which usually takes 5-10 lessons to complete.
In this level, students continue reviewing previous concepts while starting to work with two-digit numbers, such as 12 + 61 or 87 – 52 and three-digit numbers, such as 612 + 131 or 975 – 86. Students also continue practicing Small Friends and Big Friends using finger techniques, as well as simple division and multiplication.
Please note! The number of lessons needed depends on the child’s progress. Regular homework and practice with mock tests on our website can help students advance more quickly.
